In the book of Mathew 4:4 Jesus says ”It is written: Man doesn’t live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” In Genesis 2:7 it says: ”And the Lord God formed a man’s body from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” So, this was the beginning of the man. The Bible also states that it is Christ, “Through whom God created everything in heaven and earth; visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rules or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. ” (Col.1:16) Which means that the whole creation,- the things we can see, hear, touch and sense around us and even the things, which we are not able to sense and understand with our physical bodies, - literally everything, it all started through Jesus Christ. It all exists in Christ. It belongs to Christ. And it all works for Christ. And that the same Christ, who keeps together and controls the whole Universe, keeps also together every cell of our body, and every molecule of our cell, and every proton and neutron of our molecule and etc.
Either we choose to believe it or not, and even our freedom of choice comes from God, but that’s what the Bible says. And the Bible is the Word of God’s Truth. So, the breath of life originates directly from our Heavenly Father. And even if we don’t see it, we can clearly see manifestations of our breath of life, as it keeps us alive and allows us to move around. We can call it also the Spirit of Life.
Now what happens, when human being is dying? The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 12:7: ”And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” Which means that when we die, our spiritual body will be separated from our physical body. ”And just as it is destined that each person dies only once and that after that comes judgment,” there will be no this kind of reincarnation what they teach in their eastern philosophies and religions. (Hb.9:27)
From what we learned earlier , we understand, that the human being is not only a bag of flesh and bones, which appeared to the planet Earth through the spiral of evolution. But we are also a spiritual beings, created by God. And our spirit must be nourished the same way we nourish our earthly bodies. Which means that we must read the the Word of God. That’s why Jesus said: “Man doesn’t live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Now, what happens if we skip our breakfast, lunch or dinner? Oh Boy! We are starving and we are hungry. Right? We hear from media that people even die from hunger and starvation. But exactly the same thing happens, when we don’t feed our spirit. The person who looks physically well-fed and attractive on outside may be spiritually malnourished or even dead inside.
That’s why Jesus said: „It is written: Man doesn’t live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God”
”I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry again. Those who believe in me will never thirst.” (Jh 6:35)
“I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you! Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day” (Jh.6: 53-54)
Gospel of John says that „In the beginning was the Word” and „ The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Unfortunately people didn’t understand in those days, and many don’t understand even now, that the Word, which became flesh, is Jesus Christ, the Messiah. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”(Jh.3:16).
So Jesus Christ is the origin of the God’s Word. But how many of you know how the God’s Word tastes? Prophet Hezekiel shares his experience and says: ” The voice said to me, “Son of man, eat what I am giving you- eat this scroll!...so I opened my mouth and he fed me the scroll. ”Eat it all,” he said. And when I ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey.” (Hs.3:3) So, God’s word is very delicious and sweet! Another example how God’s Word works inside of the human being, is described by prophet Jeremiah. ”When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight...” (Jr.15:16) Which means, that God’s Word brings lot of joy! To the contrary of earthly food, which doesn’t bring us closer to God. The Bible says that: „We are no worse if we don’t eat, and no better if we do.” (1Cor.8:8) Because the “Food for stomach and stomach for food- but God destroys them both.” (1Cor 6:13) And “The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction.” (Gal.6:8) ” For he will take nothing with him when he dies, his splendor will not descend with him.” (Ps.49:17) “Naked a man comes from his mother’s womb, and as he comes, so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.” (Ecc. 5:15) And “What good it will be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul,” when he stands before the judgment seat of Christ? “For he brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.”(1Tim.6:7)”For all men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the words of the Lord stands forever.” (1 Pt 1:24-25) But “the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”(Gal.6:8) “ I am the resurrection and the life” said Lord Jesus. ”He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me, will never die. Do you believe this?”(Jn.11:25;5: 24) “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”(Mt.24:35)
Therefore, “ Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”(Hb 4:7)For “I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins,” says the Lord (Js.13:11) Now you may think:” Why He hasn’t done it yet? Don’t we have enough wicked people around us already? The Bible says:” The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but to come everyone to come to repentance.” (2Pt.3:9) Which means that we have to get rid of our old self, which is corrupted by its deceitful desires and live no longer as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.” But we have “to put on new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Eph.4:17-18) Or, as Jesus said :” Repent and believe the gospel!”(Mk1:15) From the previous chapters we learned that God, who created the earth “gives breath to it’s people, and life to those who walk on it.”(Js.42:5) But that’s not all. The Bible also says that : ”From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did so that men would seek him.”(Ac.17:26-28) “For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”(Rm.14:7-8) We may live in this world hundred years or even longer, but one day our heart does its last beat, and this is the end of our body. But not our end. Because “God set eternity in the hearts of the man.” (Ecc.3:11) Which means that every human being has built- in eternity, whether we like it or not. And there’s no way to escape from that fact. So, we can compare this earthy journey as a temporary stop ,where we must make up our minds for future and arrange for final and eternal destination. God says: „This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live, so that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice; and hold fast to him.” (Deut.30:19-20) And that’s why “It is written: ”Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Mt.4:4) “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” (Rm10:17) So, God gave us a choice. Either we read and believe His Words and have everlasting life. Or we deny Him and will be judged as it described in the book of Revelation.
“And I saw a great white throne, and I saw the one who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presents, but they found no place to hide. I saw dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of life. And the dead were judged according to the things written in the books, according to what they had done. The sea gave up the dead in it, and the grave gave up the dead in them. They were all judged according to their deeds. And death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death - the Lake of Fire. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the Lake of Fire.” (Rev.20:11-15)
But God is merciful for them who believe in His Word and accept Jesus as their Savior.”Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from law of sin and death.”(Rm. 8:1) For “The creation waits in eager expectations for the sons of God to be revealed.” (Rm.8:18)
And: ”No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”(1Cor.2:9)
Glory to God! And this the best news for those who are waiting for Christ!
